My therapist put me on 5 mg of Lexapro to start and increase the dosage over two weeks. I am terrified I am sensitive to medicine and scared of the side effects- what if it makes me suicidal or more depressed or the side effects or unbearable or it makes me sick and I can't enjoy thanksgiving with family really don't want to take it.

Hi, check out my thread in Medication. I am on Day 7 and doing fine. I had very mild side effects like headache, fatigue, yes I will admit a slight increase in anxiety (but I am used to that and I have had worse with No meds), tummy upset, weird dreams, sleep issues, eating lots, one dizzy spell with crying lasted less than 30 minutes. Most of my side effects have passed today. Lexapro is very well tolerated with mild, temporary side effects at the beginning. It is also fast acting, some people can feel better after only a week. I hope this helps :) You could even start on 2.5 for a few days then go to 5mg and gradually go up to 10mg if that helps you feel more in control and safer.

Don't feel alone. I just started 5mg of it and on day four.

I started on 10mg on Thursday I too was very scared but the anxiety was getting in the way of my everyday life. So I figured it was time to get help. My thinking is we don't give it a second thought to take medicine for other issues like a fever or infection so why not take something for anxiety too? I am starting CBT in dec because I would like to not take meds but for now I'm trying it.

Good luck to you!!
