I just started the generic form of lexapro today 10mg . One site had positive reviews mostly giving it an average of 7.7 out of 10. But now I'm wondering if that was for the brand name not generic. I was on a different site which had a discussion about how people who started off on the name brand Lexapro then switched to the generic when that came out had trouble with it.
Now I'm a little worried. I know everyone reacts differently then others. Maybe the switch caused these folks to have bad side.
If you have a positive experience on generic lexapro please share.
Thanks

P.s. last question I promise lol
If one gets side effects at what point do they start? My guess is it varies greatly but was curious or anxious all the same.
Thank you!!!

For me side affects started an hour after taking one tablet, it's been 2 days and I'm still feeling the side effects I haven't taken anymore, but like u said everyone is different.. I would maybe persevere with the side effects if I was on my own but I couldn't do it when all my kids depend on me

Thanks Maggie I hope you find something that works for you. I need to get into CBT soon because that's what I think is best long term.

Today I took my 4th pill of lexapro (generic). After a busy day out I had a headache which could be from the stress of being out or from the meds. I'm also tired but am recovering from surgery too. I'm tired for sure but look at the day with success in the baby steps I took.

HI there, I'm on Lexapro 10mg (generic) day 7. I didn't really notice until I realized I WASNT having awful anxiety that it is starting to work. Things just bothered me much less and I wasn't completely debilitated by any usual anxiety causing trigger. Hang in there! I have been scared to take lexapro after a bad panic episode about two years ago when I first started it. Not taking it out of fear for 2 years was a bad decision, I had to start taking more xanax than I wanted to and was pretty dependent on it (.5 mg 3 or 4 times a day). I eventually decided I just needed to try to Lexapro again because anything has to be better than knowing you have run out of xanax and dealing with that horrifying anxiety. I am feeling a lot better today and it must be the Lexapro, and for the first time in about 2 years I didn't have to take ANY xanax , I'm so happy! -Laura

That is wonderful Laura. I am on Day 9 and have been able to ditch my sleeping pills. I feel less anxious, I think it's really working!

Today is day 8 taking generic lexapro and I'm feeling a bit better I think. I went out to lunch with my husband, and 2 others. Yes I was nervous but stayed in the moment and tried to relax. It worked out fine. Kind of liked it. I would love together to the point where I'm not thinking of anxiety but I guess it takes time. Baby steps all the way!

Hi Imgibson87,
you replied to one of my postings about 4 months ago regarding my "opera therapy" technique. Do a search in this forum on "vagus nerve stress reduction" to find it. Have you tried singing again and do you notice that it reduces your stress/anxiety?

Hi again! Yes I remember, it was very interesting. I actually have been singing more frequently when I'm stressed out for some reason. I Think subconsciously I must have remembered that technique you were talking about. It honestly brings my anxiety down! I'm not sure if it has something to do with the nerve related to making noise or the fact that I am bringing my attention to something else besides panicking (which for me is awfully hard to do). Either way now that you mention it i have been singing a lot more frequently (in the car, shower, home etc) and it is probably the only non drug way I can get my mind off things when I am in serious panic mode. Too bad I can't belt out show tunes and arias in the law office, I'm sure it would help my work anxiety from sitting in a cubicle all day ! It really is very interesting, I have to do some more research on it, nothing short of Xanax has helped me focus attention elsewhere during a panic attack (I have literally tried every herbal remedy, breathing technique, meditation, brain wave app , and playing games like crossword puzzles or something). But now that you are reminding me of that, I have had a lot of success recently calming down by just singing! Thanks for the reminder scott789 :)

Right, breathing exercises, meditation etc all do very little for me - but the talking loudly or smooth yelling works extremely well. I do it every day. Find my other postings for details on how to do it. Singing loud is the key - I don't think low volume (loudness) singing would work as well. The important thing is to do it so that it doesn't create raspiness while you sing - otherwise you are doing unnecessary damage to your vocal cords. Do smooth yelling, Ahhhhh'ing or singing in a loud manner. The ultimate method that has the longest effects (2 days) is talking in a loud place such as a bar for 40+ minutes - but you have to do at least half of the talking (not listening!).

Good thing I have an extremely loud singing voice haha. I am very shy and usually quiet around people because of my anxiety but ever since I was little ive had no problem standing up on a stage in front of hundreds of people and singing my heart out. People have asked me how I can stand on stage with my awful anxiety but most people don't know that with stage lighting you can't see the audience at all :). I really am gonna I some more research on this, I have a few friends who became music therapists after college, I will get in touch with them and let you know what they say Scott !

Possibly your friends who are music therapists would know - but you should try it and see. Do you have a car you can do this in? Find my other posts and read those details. Though - the best method is going to a bar and talking to your friend for 30+ minutes (or making new friends) because the effects are the longest acting. I don't see anyone on here doing my technique - so that's why I'd like to see your feedback.

I am taking the brand name lexapro, I am in Australia and medication is very affordable here. I'm on Day 14 now, still on 10mg. I definitely feel better (less anxious) however there are still some mild to moderate symptoms - irritable, jumpy, my sleep issues have returned. I spoke to my doctor about increasing and she wants me to wait and review me in another 2 weeks. I am impatient and I feel like going up to 15mg now, but I suppose I should do as I'm told :-(

Follow orders funkstar. I you are in-patient you are in the best possible hands!
Personally, I struggled with Lexapro - I found that it gave me intense nausea and stomach cramps and the side effects didn't subside after 8 weeks of taking it, so I switched to Edronax, which I have been takin for 7 years now and it has helped me immensely. My Mum, however, has been on Lexapro for a couple of years now and has done really well on it - it just goes to show that everyone is different. Good luck!

Later this morning I'll take my 12th pill of lexapro ( generic). I can see an improvement but I'm not where I want to be yet. However it's still early on and can take 4 weeks or so to see the full effects. My side effects are mostly tired but I'm also 6 weeks into recovering from major surgery so my being tired was there before. Plus I get headaches light ones but headaches all the same. I'm cutting back on caffeine too. Advil helps. So I'm saying I'm having side effects that I can deal with that could also be from other things. I'm happy I made the decision to take something daily. I should have done this months ago but I wasn't ready.

Hey there,
I have been on Lexapro generic for about 5 months now. I had some pretty bad side effects for the first two weeks, but I'm very glad that I stuck with it. It has been working very well.
I still get anxious from time to time, but nowhere near where it used to be. I also saw a therapist for a bit, but don't anymore. Keep it up! I also bumped up to 15mg which seems to work better.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks, at what point did you get bumped up to 15mg? I'm thinking that might be for me. But as I said I'm not yet 2 weeks in and it needs more time. Plus I don't see my dr till dec 10

Day 20 of generic lexapro for me, in the beginning was a worsening of my anxiety symptoms for sure, but then gradually better. Still only on 10 mg, hoping to stay there. Looking into supplementing with amino acid therapy (l dopa, tryptophan, neuroreplete) in the near future.
Hope this helps.

Today is 2 weeks and 3 days since I started on the generic form of lexapro. My side effects are minor, slight headaches some days and being a bit tired. All manageable. I think it's working because I feel more relaxed. However last night when we picked up take out I had my husband get the pizza as the line was about 15 minutes longs. Waiting in lines is something I need to work on. I did today go out with my family and I waited I. The lines, they were shorter and I tell myself waiting in line is good practice or exposure.
I started back to work last week after being off 6 weeks for surgery. Only had to work 2 days then I've been off 4 for thanksgiving! That went pretty well . This will be a long week with working all week. That's good for me to be busy and the day goes by faster for sure.
I start CBT dec 5th and can't wait.

Today is 3 weeks since I started lexapro generic. I can see an improvement in my anxiety. Work has been a bit better. The day goes by faster there cause I'm not watching the clock constantly. I did something I avoided before, the drive through at McDonalds. That was. Big source of anxiety being in a line that can move slowly with no way out!!! I felt great doing it and said to myself this is ok. I'm able to look around and see there is no harm there. My headaches are less, I wake up at night most nights but can return to sleep pretty well. I'm very tired when I get home from work but I'm also adjusting to returning to work since having surgery 7 weeks ago. I think I'm more tired from that then the lexipro.
I would say so far so good with this for me.

Today is week 4 on generic lexapro. I feel like the side effects have passed and I'm seeing positive results. I'm not sure if I need to increase the dose I see my dr on the 10th. I am putting myself out there more but with working I haven't had much time to get out and do. The weekend will give me more opportunities. All in all I'm pleased with how I'm doing and feeling.

I saw my dr for the first time since starting lexapro generic. I'm feeling better but not there yet. She suggested bumping it up to 20 and I said can I try 15mg since I'm on the fence and she agreed. They called it into the pharmacy and after waiting a while I was told the dr needs to call insurance company to approve it. Needless to say I wasn't happy but glad I went tonight rather then waiting till my supply got low. I'm not sure when I'm going to start taking more.
I'm on week 3 of generic lexapro. I haven't noticed a difference yet. Most side effects are almost gone still have nausea and shakiness and a lot of anxiety. Hoping to feel better soon!

I wanted to check in and say I think .15 of generic lexapro is the place for me!! I'm more relaxed and doing things I didn't think possible. I've been doing CBT too and think that is playing a huge role too. My confidence is much higher!!!

I'm suppose to begin lexapro asap, however I'm not sure if I should with all this horrible side effects talk. Could someone please fill me in as to what all these side effects were? I'm very scared!I haven't even picked it up from pharmacy yet so not sure if its generic or brand either.

Sure I take generic lexapro. Best thing is to introduce it slowly I started on .10 and after about a month went to .15 my side effects were being tired and a headache Advil helped with the headache. I was also cutting back on caffeine and recovering from major surgery at the same time. So I'm not 100% sure it was all side effects from the drugs. Most people do have some minor side effects but your body will adjust. For me it was the right decision as my anxiety was getting in the way of things too much.
