Yep.. been on it since 1992. Off a couple years and tried zoloft, celexa and lexapro. Although they helped too, I like prozac best. Prozac can be activating(increase anxiety at first or early on) but then it helps me nicely after that. It's dirt cheap in generic, has a long half life so easy to stop if desired and available in many doses to tweak your dose. Has been around a long time so safety is well known to be good. Having said that all ssri's may help as well as the next so the only way to know what's best for you is trying different ones. Docs usually support this as long and you give the med a fair trial. Zoloft would be my first recommendation as it not as activating as prozac but that's the only advantage there IMHO. Otherwise try prozac at 10mg for a few weeks then go to 20 and hold there. Might ask for a small rx of clonazepam or valium in case you have some higher anxiety at first but you may not have that. PM me any time. Alankay

Was on Prozac for about 2 years and did very well. Did the typical stop medication bc I was feeling good at the time- big mistake. Got to the point where my anxiety was overwhelming. I was a mess. I slowly restarted my Prozac as it makes me more anxious in the beginning and have klonopin to help with the increase. The beginning was rough but got pretty settled on 10mg and now trying to increase it and starting to have same symptoms as when I started med- not fun but think its normal. It's just hard to be patient. If you choose Prozac my advice is go slow with dose and be patient.
