Hi,
I'm new here, I'm 29, lived with anxiety problems since my early 20's, panic attacks etc. About 2 weeks ago I had a complete breakdown, went to the doctor, diagnosed with depression, and was put on Lexapro. 2 weeks later I'm starting to feel a bit better again (not it's not the meds yet), although the anxiety is always on my mind, and I've always felt cardiophobic, even though at my latest check-up I was fine.
But just the other day when I woke up with the same old knot of anxiety in my stomach, thinking "another day of this crap", I felt completely fed up with it and my overactive mind, so I decided to just change my thinking towards anxiety, and completely surrender to it. And for me it worked. There is absolutely nothing to be scared of except the feeling of anxiety, and that is certainly nothing to be frightened of, in fact it's a good old friend of ours. Not trying to fight it or ignore it, just letting any feelings of anxiety wash over me (it never lasts more than a minute or 2 anyway).
So far after adapting this approach I have felt much better and stronger, It may help people or it may not. I would also encourage anyone who is having a tough time to read up as much as possible about anxiety and how it works, and there are a lot of proven techniques on how to overcome it (Mindfulness is something I have started to get into, a lot of books on it out there).
Anyway, I'm in no way trying be preachy, I'm in the same boat as everyone else here, just thought I'd share something I discovered as I really feel for anyone going through bad times with anxiety, I know the hell that it is, but just remember there's a lot that we can do that will make us feel better.
