View Full Version : Went to the Optometrist...

I recently visited my Optometrist and was terrified that the results of the tests would reveal something sinister. I hear MS, Diabetes, and even Strokes, to an extent, can be pre-discovered through in depth eye tests. I went, they checked my pressure, took pictures, had two specialists spend twenty minutes checking the back of my eyes, I had two pressure tests and then my Optometrist sat me down and told me that my eyes are perfectly healthy and that the back of my eyes are completely fine, no need for concern of underlying conditions.

I told him I seem to suffer from grainy visions alot and spouts of visual disturbances (bursts of stars, red and green circles, grainy vision.)

I told him that I used to suffer from CLASSIC MIGRAINES that were severe (Aura, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light). He asked me when my last Migraine was and I told him that they stopped for two years, then I had one and that was almost a year ago. He told me that my migraines have stopped and that I may finally just naturally be getting over them. He told me visual disturbances and smaller migraines are super-common in people who suffered from bad migraines.

This has helped my anxiety except I still worry about my migraines. I seem to get bouts of visual disturbances, as well as the build-up to my migraines (No definitive AURA but a lot of visual flickers and such) and no headache - I get scared when these happen. My right hand feels tingly and strange and I panic but eventually if I take my mind off them and control myself, I can finally not let them consume me and worry me. I also went to A&E over my hands and a doctor gave me a general check-up and told me that my body may be dealing with migraines in a different way since they are changing. I went home, went to the eye doctors, and they told me everything was fine.

So am I? I've been given prescription glasses due to my excessive computer use and nearsightedness. I guess I'm just a little worried about the nature of my migraines.

I got migraines too, after I had my son. I'd get them 2-3x a month. They were debilitating. Auras, nausea, pounding head, sensitive to light. I didn't even had medication to help them, I'd just suffer through. They'd be better after a nights sleep. I decided to check things in my diet that might be causing them. And there it was, caffeine and artificial sweeteners. I've been migraine free for 3 years. I also used to work for an ophthalmologist and optometrist. I had them check my eyes when i was having them, and all was well. Believe them. If they checked your pressure 4 times, looked at the back of your eyes with the light, and they said your eyes are healthy, believe them. Migraines are common too. Try not to worry too much.

I just went to the eye dr as well & had him check my eyes extensively. All good. I used to get classic migraines and the visual disturbances were so scary. Thought I was going blind.
