I went for an EEG because I am having a pain on my right side head on and off in one spot. What does an EEG show?

Abnormal electrical irregulaties or pulses in relationship to all other parts of your head. Yes, there is an electrical current running through all of our bodys. I STILL believe that this pain you type of is (neuropathy) or nerve pain sensors are screwed up because of the anxiety. It can be a temporary occurance that may pass and never return but in my case it became a disease that will go into remission and then at times of high stress it arrives again to burn the shit outta the left side of my head. Nothing helps this type of pain either and it has been termed 'the suicide disease" because of the intense pain and burning that it creates..I hope it isnt trigeminal neuralgia but if it is then there are specific medications designed to target the trigeminal nerves in the head.
Goodluck to you Meow!

The dr said the EEG came back normal. What does this mean?

It means it found nothing wrong with your heart function. This test is the standard screening test for checking your/my heart. If you passed it, it's veerryyyyyy unlikely you have any problem at all as I'm sure the doc checked via stethoscope, BP, pulse, looking you over etc. Alankay

Your doctor should have explained everythinhg to you before you went for the EEG- what it is, why you get it, what it may show and so on. Anyway, EEG stands for electroencephalography and as Endu says it measures electrical activity and detects if anything abnormal is going on. An ECG is a different test and is for your heart. The EEG's can detect things like epilepsy, tumours, strokes and other brain type things. So yours came back normal which indicates that the pain in your head is most likely nothing sinister and nothing to worry about. Did your doctor not say what happens now? He may wish to investigate further with a scan but since the EEG is normal then he may not. I think you need to try and get your doc to communicate better with you so you know and understand fully what is going on.

Excellent, he is obviously doing his job then when it comes to investigating what is going on. These are just scans that will have a look deeper into the brain to see what is going on- the likelihood is that nothing will be wrong but if it is then you will be in a much better position to treat it as you will then know fully what is causing your pain and how to deal with it. It's scary getting tests done and waiting for results is horrible but it's positive that these tests are being done.

Yes it is. I am so scared because it takes one hour and I will wear a helmet and be in a tube.
