Hi there. I have been an anxious person for as long as I can remember but it's never been very very severe. I have been taking chemicals that affect you much like amphetamines would every weekend for the past 3 months or so (with my boyfriend) for fun. I have noticed during this time my anxiety has got worse. (I'm stupid I know!) the other day (Tuesday) after cycling home from work I laid down to have a nap and my heart suddenly started to race. I was on my own and I got so scared I was going to have a heart attack or something which I think made it worse. I nearly called an ambulance, I really thought I was going to die that day. My boyfriend got home and eventually I calmed down after he said I was probably having a panic attack. Then I felt normal for an hour, then I got out of bed where I had been to make some dinner and soon my heart started going again along with a sense of dread so I went back to bed where I tried to sleep and eventually did. Next day I woke up and felt ok but soon the heart was going again. This is day 3 and it's still here but it comes and goes throughout the day, I find if I keep busy and my mind occupied I don't notice it. Is it all in my mind? Or have I done my heart some serious damage? I feel it most when I lay down to go to sleep and the more I think about it the worse I feel. I've totally gone off food. I do somehow manage to get to sleep and I'm going to book a drs appointment asap but wondered if anyone has any similar issues? I don't think I was even feeling anxious when these 'palpitations' started, now I'm just constantly worried that I've done myself some serious damage or I'm goi f to drop down dead.

I would like to add it's been 3 days since I touched any chemicals, I am even too scared to drink wine and searching on the Internet for answers also scares me! I have felt s lot better today and haven't noticed my heart as much but it's still there and it's bothering me

I also went through(and still going through) something similar. I would always feel my heartbeat and think its beating too fast so I freaked out. Wasn't sure what was wrong and it was a very uncomfortable so I went to the doctor. He told me he couldn't see anything that was wrong but recommended me to a cardiologist who ran some test(stress test, ekg, echo, blood work, ect) everything came back normal and so I'm really not sure whats wrong or why I still feel this way.

I am going to book an appointment with a doctor I think, I saw one on Wednesday and I stressed how panicked I was and she said I was probably coming down with a virus! So I'm going to see a different one. I think if I had all those tests done and they came back clear it would put my mind at rest. Currently hating trying to sleep as sometimes body will twitch or I'll jerk awake as I'm falling to sleep. :(
