I worry about everything, usually when I have nothing to do, my mind starts over thinking and I get the craziest thoughts that make me worry about every thing.

That's the root of anxiety(worry). Ruminating on negative issues/thoughts that puts you on a trajectory to more worry, more worry, even more worry and then anxiety/panic. It is kind of a mild form of obsessing and maybe why ssri's help with anxiety. They take time to work since they help reduce the worry/rumination. A little less worry, leads to less worry leads too less anxiety. Benzos slow down the brain via GABA which help right away. Best to try and get to the psychic root of anxiety if one can be found(conflict, past abuse, etc) and try to reduce it by addressing the issue(s) but many folks are or can be anxious with a real "traceable" reason. CBT is also good but we each find our way to help reduce/control anxiety along with a therapist/doc, etc. Alankay.

I used to worry about small things way to much. And even though I knew intellectually that I was overworrying, I still felt quite worrysome.

However, when I finally got on the right meds for my anxiety, my anxieties plummetted. And now when I get too worried about something, telling myself that I'm getting too worried actually helps calm me down. Before getting on the right meds, I could try reasoning with myself about how my anxieties were out of proportion to the given situation. But reasoning with myself didn't calm me down back then at all.
