Yesterday my therapist decided that we should try prolonged exposure therapy. She feels like I am experiencing some PTSD due to complications that occurred 3 years ago when my daughter was born. Since she told me the plan, my anxiety has been out of control. I actually called my mom home from work to stay with the kids because I was lightheaded and felt like I couldn't manage on my own.

What is going on? Why do I suddenly feel out of control after having my anxiety in check for a few months now?

You are likely experiencing Anticipatory Anxiety about the exposure experience/treatment. It's worse that the actual dreaded event(s) so hang in there. Alankay.

Thanks Alankay. I assumed it was probably something along those lines. I keep telling myself that I have to get out of my own head but that appears much more difficult for me than it would seem.
