View Full Version : natural supplements for anxiety
hi im new here. i suffer from generalised anxiety disorder and im wanting to give a natural over the counter medication a shot before i consider going to the doctor and getting something prescribed. i have searched on the internet but i haven't been totally convinced by anything yet. the two supplements that keep coming up though are seredyn & purecalm. also st johns warts (i tried that for about 6-8 weeks last year and it didn't seem to make any difference).
just wanting to know if anyone has tried seredyn or purecalm and if it has actually helped them?
from what ive gathered seredyn is better for coping with attacks but im looking for more daily sort of anxiety as i dont get big attacks often. im not sure though so any help would be much appreciated.
my other thought is trying st johns again.
any other suggestions are more than welcome
thank you:)

I am usually quite cynical about natural remedies but have been taking bach's rescue remedy for a couple of weeks now and I haven't had any panic attacks. A few drops on your tongue before a stressful situation and you're good to go. I have recently returned to work and also been on nights out over the past few weeks and usually I would be incredibly anxious but I have been fine. It could be because I now take beta blockers or because I am just in a better place mentally after seeing a psychotherapist or maybe it is the rescue remedy- who knows! But it's worth trying.

I definitely think Bach's rescue remedies is one of the best, I swear by it. Also? have you heard of EFT/Tapping before, there's youtube videos of how its done, I swear it's amazing, I've recommended it to almost everyone, it definitely helped me when I was at my worst.

If you go onto youtube and search EFT (I cant post a link because i've not posted enough times) & look for magnustapping there's loads of other videos but i find this guy very helpful, and it really works, I think your supposed to do it 2 times a day and you'll feel incredibly different after a few weeks! but i've just started it & feel it helps loads.

I've tried a bunch of them.
L-Theanine helped especially with coffee induced.
Picamilon haven't noticed much when using it at once but i do want to try it everyday for at least a month.
Phenibut works about half of the time.
Kava-Kava extract seems to help but i want to try it again.
Kratom seemed to make it worse in higher doses or certain types.
Was curious about trying Inositol in 12-18 gram doses.
That's all i have.

There are definatly alot of different options to choose from. Before purchasing any "herbal" supplements the first thing to do would be to see of they'll actually cross the (blood-brain barrier). Anxiety starts in the brain. St.Johns wart can make people "photosensitive" which means sunlight=burn. Kava kava has been also shown to be "toxic" and is a very strong herbal remedy. I have a list of things that I use with great success but I also must say that although anxiety starts in the mind, it is those "signals" that are sent to your "adrenals" that make it so noticable to each of us. I have spent more time focusing on keeping the thought in my mind clear, and then taken supps to keep the "adrenals" functioning properly. (hormones, steroids, pro-hormones, misc chemicals) produced by your own glands after received messages from the mind/brain..

Kava-Kava root in itself it not toxic it's been safely used for decades by those in Oceania and as a drug in Europe. Something happen back in the late 90's or early 2000 when a few low quality companies were including parts other than the root (which is what is normally used) and that had some toxic properties. Get a good brand like herb pharm, gaia, or now foods and who ensure high quality and you won't have any safety concerns.
