Your best bet would be to seek natural remedies like exercise, diet, and social connections.

Real research has proved that most of those so-called medz are designed to make your condition worse, they want to keep you sick, so that they can make more money on you when you need more medical care.

This is stupid advice.

While natural remedies are preferable and very helpful, some need medicine.

When my anxiety hit (and since then) I started and have been working a new job. I needed instant relief because I couldn't risk my anxiety preventing me from working.

Small doses of ativan were incredible. Completely relaxed me within 20 minutes. You have no idea how good it is to be in the throes of a massive panic attack, wondering if you will be able to make it to work on time, and a very small dose of a drug fixing you right up. The ability to stop a massive panic attack in it's tracks quickly is invaluable. It's easy for people to say "just meditate" or "do this special thing", but stuff like that often takes time to learn, and doesn't work for everyone.

Lexapro has also been a huge help. Over the course of about 5-6 weeks I went from daily panic attacks and ativan use to 1-2 panic attacks in the past month, and almost no ativan use. I feel more balanced, and in general the "volume" of my anxiety has been turned down.

The anxiety isn't eliminated- I still feel it. It's just far more easy to function on a daily basis. It gives me the stability I need to improve my diet, work on therapy, exercise, make social connections and work on healthy ways to deal with anxiety.

Believe me, I wouldn't take medicine if it didn't help immensely. Same with the tens of millions of others who take it as well.

There's really nothing wrong with medication to help you during the short term. It's there to relieve some of the symptoms.

I agree with bhamlaxy that medicine works wonders for some people and while the natural route is preferable it is sometimes not an option for folk with mental health problems. Drugs can let people live a life that would not have been possible had they been med free. I think that trying natural remedies first is great but if they have no effect then there is nothing wrong with having to take prescription medication.
Many people that use this forum take meds for anxiety and I think the comment that meds make you worse is really unfair- that sort of comment will worry people. Just because they didn't work for you does not mean they don't work for others. I live in the UK where we get free medical care and treatment from the NHS. Dishing out drugs costs the NHS money not the patient so your comment about trying to make money from patients is unfounded.

I truly believe that if I was not put on medication originally I may not be here today. I tried all alternative medicines and natural remedies for my depression and anxiety and due to the nature of my condition i could not even leave the house to get to a therapist to try that route at the beginning.

Having opinions about what works and what doesn't is fine and I respect that but telling people not to take their medication and spreading conspiracy theories is not helpful or fair for those that are truly suffering.

If I had not of had the help from lorazapam for my anxiety I would not be here now !!

Med's are not the answer to the problem , they are there to help & for most anxiety sufferers med's like lorazapam / diazepam are essential to living any sort of life

I agree with exercise and diet it helps alot but it takes a few weeks to start helping. In the mean time benzos are a life saver. I use a small dose of xanax 1-2 times per week as needed and guess what im not feeling worse. Ive actually came a long way. My dr doesnt want me to stay on xanax. Hes weened me down from what i used to take and eventually ill be off it altogether.

Youre just paranoid...its a conspiracy.
I guess antibiotics dont cure bacterial infections either? Lol...

You are all right, the medz can help severe patients calm down, but my situation was not severe, yet they gave medz that only made things worse.

When I told them about my leg tremors, they actually laughed and said there is nothing they could do for me. I honestly think I went to the wrong doctors for treatment.

It really does sound like you got a bad doctor. Did you make a complaint about how you were treated? It's ashame that this experience has made you think so negatively about doctors and meds but bear in mind that this is just your experience. Unfortunate as it was it does not mean that all doctors are like this and that all medication should be avoided.

If you have a Dr that is laughing at you then I would recommend seeing a different doctor. Mind you, sometimes it takes a trial and error to find the right medication, not all of them agree with everybody.

I complained about the doctors and the treatment, I also told them that I would never pay any of the bills because they did not help me at all. It is not only me that feels that way about the doctors in this area, almost all of the patients that have been to the office have gotten worse. It won't be long before they are shut down for malpractice.
