Hey guys,
I'm going to try to make this brief...
I have been having MAJOR issues with sleep lately. To the extent that I sleep maybe 3 hours at the most.
My psychiatrist has prescribed me three different sleeping tablets now... The one that is currently working best for me is zolpidem (stilnox). BUT I feel as though my anxiety increases the next day after taking it so I am so reluctant to keep taking it. I also really hate being on sleeping tablets but considering I have exams in the next week I unfortunately do need to take them. :(
Can you share your experiences with sleeping tablets? How can I make myself feel more comfortable with taking them??
Thanks.
AvD.

I have always been a bad sleeper- takes me hours to fall asleep and like you I get very little sleep a night. I have tried diazepam and nitrazepam (10 and 15mg) and it does little to help my sleeping. I feel chilled out but they made no difference to the length of time it took me to fall asleep and I'd feel a bit foggy the next day. For some reason over the counter meds work much better for me- the ones that use larger doses of antihistimine and also decongestants like sudafed. I seem to be able to fall alseep pretty quickly if I use them and feel fine the next day. Everyone reacts differently to drugs though, some work for people some don't. If you havent tried sleep aids from the pharamcy why not give it a go and see if it works.

Multiple experienced doctors have told me that dependence is not really the problem. If you're dependent and it's working, so what? The problem is that sleep medications tend to lose their efficacy over time, in fact rather quickly. So you need to increase the dose. Then the higher dose loses efficacy. However, this isn't always the case, with experimentation, it may be possible to find a sleep medication that works on a continuing basis.
There are multiple issues, and anxiety about not getting enough sleep plays into the equation. The cognitive behavioral therapist I saw advocates doing a sleep exercise in bed and using CBT methods to rewire your brain so you believe that it's enough to do the exercise and you stop obsessing about the number of hours you will sleep.

Less hour sleeping has become some concern for me. I am not able to sleep more than 5 hours and it breaks. I need more sleep as I work for 12 hours. Any good tablets?
