Hi, im new on this forum, just wanted to know if anyone could help me. Im a 28 yr old female , and have been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks for about 4 years on and off. Lately they have been a lot worse and affecting my life & causing other symptoms like headaches, blurry vision, numbness & tingling usually in hands or feet, dizzyness, a sense of feeling disconnected from everything( if that makes sense) , stomach aches etc... I feel i need to get some medication to help manage this as its affecting me every day. Just wondering are there other options apart from antidepressants as i have been on these on and off in the past for depression and find they make me more anxious, and basically feel worse. I have also tried xanax and these just completely knock me out, as a mum of 2 young kids this is not an option for me. Has anyone had any luck with a different type of medication..?
Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks :)

Hi, I am also 28 with a 5 yr old and have been suffering from the same thing for 14 yrs. I have tried every medication on the market with horrible side effects and I also am on xanax but I have been on them for 12 years. I would encourage you to try something more natural. Try getting into yoga, meditation, etc. I think all of these drugs for anxiety help but also give you rebound anxiety there for keeping you on the medication. I am a great example of this! Had I not taken the drug this long I may not even have anxiety problems to the extent that I do. I dont know what kind of insurance that you have but my insurance is through medicare and I see this amazing guy who performs reiki, teaches me meditation and has given me so many tools to deal and subside my issues and my insurance covers him! I would look for someone more spiritual healing and make meds your last result. I hope the best for you and pray for a speedy recovery for you and the rest of us.

What dose of Xanax were you taking?

A low enough benzo (like .5mg of ativan) can take the edge off without knocking you out.

But a benzo should really only be used sparingly- when things get really out of control and you are in a panic attack.

An antidepressant is the route for longer term stability. Meet with a psychiatrist who can go over the options for one. There are many ways to avoid side effects (choosing the right drug, taking it before bed, slowly increasing the dose to your target level, etc.)

If you can do it naturally, that's great too. I haven't tried this product, but it gets RAVE reviews.

valium (benzo) might be right choice for you or xanax - you can take one xanax whenever you feel nervous.
