Well I'm a 20 year old college student, and me and my girlfriend are going through some tough, but not insurmountable, times! (staying positive!)
My girlfriend has been experiencing anxiety symptoms for pretty much her whole life- she has a very strong fear of elevators, being locked in something- it's similar to claustrophobia, but we expect, something else. She is fine with small spaces- it is when she feels she won't be able to leave a place that the fear sets in. For example, cruise ships, stadiums- large spaces, but if the doors were locked, that's when the problems start.
Thankfully these do not pose too much of a problem for her anxiety, as these are fairly easily avoided, we dont have to deal with that aspect too much.
But recently, in the past 6-8 months, there's been a lot of anxiety concerning her health. I am prone to think that most of her symptoms are due to her anxiety, as the symptoms really began to get worse when college life got to be quite stressful. Unfortunately, the headaches, neck pains, dizziness, nausea- when these begin, its hard not to think "What if this means something worse?" That's where that anxiety sets it, and it's hard to pull out of, as anxiety and fear will, of course, only worsen these symptoms...There is also a strong fear of taking any sort of medication, due to an allergic reaction she had to some medication when she was younger, so that's another thing.
So recently, we've begun a process of getting healthy, without medication! I am a strong believer in the power that your diet can have on your body physically and mentally, and I think that if we began to eat like we should, and exercise daily, and everything else we should be doing, it would go a long way in helping her get rid of this anxiety once and for all.
She recently went to the doctor, who advised that she go on the paleo diet. I'm sure most know, but for those who don't, its basically a diet that contains no processed foods, no grain, and no dairy. The tagline is "if you couldn't kill it yourself or pick it yourself, don't eat it". I think that this is a great idea, as it will help both of us get healthier to where we have more energy, have less pains, and thus less anxiety!
The problem we were facing recently is she has been having trouble getting through this due to her thoughts about whether or not her headaches and dizziness and everything else were actually something else wrong, something really wrong. We all know that everyone fears death, and its hard not to think about it when this kind of anxiety sets in. So there's that anxiety to deal with also. So, shes going to have a cat scan and blood work done to make sure there's nothing actually wrong, and then we're going to start in on getting better, mentally and physically!
I have purchased the book "Been There, Done That? Do This!" by Sam Obitz, due to the great reviews I've read about it on this site, so, thank you guys. You've all already helped us so much. The book isn't here yet, but it should be in a few days hopefully. And I hope I can help people out here as well!
tl;dr: Me and my girlfriend are on the road to getting better, and we hope we can do so here, while helping others along the way! Thanks guys.
