Usually takes about 6 - 10 weeks but could be longer or shorter depending on if you and you mind body and emotions except it

Blue, if ssri's fail docs often they try a TCA like Trazadone or Remeron or older ones like Imipramine but almost always try a SNRI like Effexor before the TCA. Buspar is also tried. Some docs resort to lyrica for GAD or atarax(an old antihistamine) or even Miltown(Meprobamate an older but different anti-anxiety med) as an option for failed cases(failed drug response). Still many patients will use a benzodiazepine for their "main med" if AD's prove worthless or intolerable. Benzos are often kept "on hand" as a reserve for bad periods as they work fast and well for most folks. Most patients learn how to use these properly...others don't.:( St. John's Wort or 5-HTP are common "herbals".
Beta blockers are used for racing heart/shaking/tremor for us with Social Anxiety. Alankay.
